Duality Derby

Duality Derby

It's Not A Race

We transformed two 80's Buicks into a pair of art cars, designed opposing racing teams to drive them, and destroyed it all in front of a roaring crowd at the Indiana State Fair.

As a short film, DUALITY DERBY uses these cars and their destruction to explore the forces that compete within all of us. As a brand, DUALITY DERBY uses vintage racing graphics to explore ideas of introspection and growth through a range of decals, wearables, props, film costumes, and garage knick knacks.

The year spent designing over 100+ logos, building the cars, prepping them for the derby, and traveling to Indiana to film and destroy them, remains a highlight for our studio and the group of friends and family who made it possible.

Leading up to their destruction, the cars exhibited at the largest county fair in North America.

Our booth was busy with people wanting a closer look at our suits and cars. Kids drove in an RC demo derby. We won 5th best outdoor exhibitor.
Faces lit up as people pieced together the narrative of the opposing vehicles. Conversations deepened, exploring the forces that compete to shape our perspectives and perceptions. Of ourselves, one another, and the world around us.
It was then that we invited visitors to write on the hood of each car …
We handed out signed postcards to everyone we met. The backs served as gratitude journals & burn lists … an opportunity to nurture the conversations and thoughts that took place around our cars.
